12:15:59 From Ralph Froehlich : It’s great that there two outdoor samples since it is difficult to calculate an average from a single outdoor sample. However, multiple indoor samples would be needed to compare indoor and outdoor mean concentrations.
12:20:25 From John Lapotaire : What caused the wet slab
12:25:46 From joe : Dr Spurgeon do you have an opinion where it appears over the years that NIOSH 0800 has been misused to the point that the way sampling is conducted by most "mold inspectors" i.e. one sample outside , one in a complaint area and one noncompliant and ignoring the consecutive samples. Also how this was applied to spore traps , when spore traps are not in the method description.
12:30:21 From Ed Light : Your critique of mold assessments is to be commended, Joe. However, your underlying assumption that better sampling strategies and data interpretation can be used to make recommendations are not supported by the scientific evidence. Therefore, making any findings drawn from mold testing test data should be considered inconclusive. My conclusions with respect to contamination are based on the public health standard- mold growth and excess dampness are not acceptable and must be resolved. Any conclusions on health should be based on relative exposure to mold and dampness as considered by a physician following generally accepted medical opinion.
12:39:58 From Ralph Froehlich : ERMI was developed to assess carpet dust, but not other surfaces. Accordingly, ERMI results should not be applied to the evaluation of other surfaces WITHOUT EXTENSIVE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
12:40:15 From Ben Kunze : Does anyone use the OFFA collection procedure with Allergenco-D cassettes? I'm interested in what you define as the surface area of the cassette--do you use the inner, capsule-shaped wall sampling shrouds area, or the diameter of the entire cassette?
12:42:01 From Ed Light : p.s. Scientists are generally not needed to assess and clear mold issues. A thorough visual inspection by an informed restoration contractor (which may need to include accessing behind enclosures and/or a comprehensive moisture assessment by an engineer, in complex cases) is generally sufficient.
