Show Discussion:
12:03:17 From cliff zlotnik : TRivia- name the electrical engineering term defined as " the measure of the opposition that a circuit presents when a voltage is applied".
12:04:04 From Don Weekes : electrical impedance
12:04:56 From cliff zlotnik : Correct Don, well done
12:05:48 From Don Weekes : Replying to "Correct Don, well do..."
12:11:29 From Jeff Charlton : Good to see you Kelvin
12:11:47 From Jeff Charlton : Why does the new meter have specific gravity?
12:18:04 From Ed Light : I really appreciate you guys' unique ability to address critical questions. In the field, I generally see cheaper/simpler meters in use. Please comment on the accuracy and reliability of lower cost meters. Are there any that give a reasonably accurate reading?
12:20:56 From robert higgins : Hi Ed, in my experience, I would not accept the results of other meters for concrete. Other building materials such as gypsum, wood, etc. can accurately be measured with three manufacturers; Tramex, Lignomat and Delmhorst.
12:23:24 From pete consigli : Concrete Bob Higgins is in the house! Welcome to the show Bob!
12:25:03 From robert higgins : LOL…thanks Pete!
12:26:07 From Jeff Charlton : Hi Joe Are there any other radio stations that are more informed?
12:35:15 From david mason : Great system using daily
12:35:36 From Ed Light : I appreciate your comments on accuracy, but what about precision/repeatability of cheaper meters to meet a project's standard (i.e., if your measurements of an area are significantly and consistently below 15%, classify it as acceptable and vica versa, if consistently and significantly above 15%, conclude more drying is needed)? At a minimum, are cheap meters informative about drying trends (i.e., how effective is the current drying setup?.?
12:38:54 From pete consigli : When Einstein was 10, he might have understood Andrew’s moisture explanation! Perhaps moisture science is an explanation best understood by adults? The 73 Year old should know this stuff and can explain it to their 10 year old grandkids when they are fishing!
12:53:19 From Ed Light : In addition to the meter's accuracy, sampling strategy is a very important factor. I try to include both typical and worst-case spots and discount tiny areas (i.e., less than a few square cm's) with a uniquely high reading, consider normal background readings from the same material in an area not affected by water damage, and major changes in onsite relative humidity which comes into equilibrium with the surfaces.
12:54:39 From robert higgins : The problem with most meters and most methods when measuring moisture in concrete, is that the variability in concrete is created not only by moisture, but the chemistry as well. Concrete continuously changes and meters that have NOT be evaluated in field conditions is the biggest issue. Many of them do well in a controlled environment, but become unpredictable in field conditions. Since we cannot know what is going on in the concrete, we also cannot know what the meter is actually registering
12:56:34 From robert higgins : In a field study conducted in Finland, several methods did well in the lab conditions, but when the method were used in the field, the results were all over the map…and this difference increased with time…
12:58:09 From Ed Light : fyi, cliff- Ireland is not in the UK! (I'm a dual citizen)
13:00:10 From robert higgins : Reacted to "fyi, cliff- Ireland ..." with
13:04:30 From Ed Light : I almost shut down the Orlando Airport when I forgot to put my pin-meter in my checked bag and the TSA guy accused me of having a stun gun! This was resolved when another agent came over and said, "I used to be a mold guy, that's just a moisture meter!"
13:04:51 From ARynhart : Reacted to "I almost shut down t..." with
13:05:58 From cliff zlotnik : Ed, I spent 2/3s of my military service stationed in the UK for two years
13:11:44 From robert higgins : GREAT JOB Andrew and Kelvin! Cuff and Joe always do a great job of moderating
13:11:51 From Jeff Charlton : Your all ageing to well for me to show my mug
13:15:40 From T.Martin MRSA#4055 | ISSA/Normi member 30016 : Great show. Prioritizing Safety, Health, and Energy facts over production is crucial to mitigate inflation..

13:16:48 From robert higgins : Cliff, you were victimized by my spell check…
