761: Irene Grant, MD - A Medical Perspective on Mold

Post by admin »

Show Resources: 12:03:37 From cliff zlotnik : Trivia: What is the difference between endotoxins and mycotoxins?
12:04:27 From Paula Schenck : how produced- myco is fungal endo is usually bacteria
12:04:30 From Erik S : Endotoxins from bacteria, Mycotoxins from fungus I believe
12:04:36 From Erik S : Reacted to "how produced- myco i..." with 👍
12:04:45 From Gina : Mycotoxins are produced from fungi. Endotoxin come from bacteria
12:05:28 From cliff zlotnik : Hi Paula, congrats on first correct answer.
12:05:47 From cliff zlotnik : please send your contact info to czlotnik@cs.com
12:33:06 From iPhone jack : Thank you dr grant
12:36:59 From Ed Light : The science establishes that (a) fungal infections are associated with agricultural, industrial and hospital acquired exposures; (b) severely immunocompromised patients are susceptible to fungal infections: and (c) Opportunistic fungi are present in indoor and outdoor air under background conditions. What studies have demonstrated causation of fungal infection in occupants exposed to indoor mold growth or fungal infections in mold remediation workers? Has there been any epidemiology investigating this?
12:42:43 From Ed Light : Can you cite any studies clearly establishing that indoor stachybotrys exposure has caused toxicity symptoms?
12:44:23 From Ed Light : Have any of your anecdotal cases you believe associated indoor mold growth with fungal infection been published and subject to peer review?
12:46:16 From Erik S : MicroGen Dx and Microbiology Dx are decent labs - the first tests for Stachy as well as thousands of other fungi via PCR and next generation sequencing sinus swab. Patients can self order for ~$250. Hope this can help.
12:51:08 From Paula Schenck : Thank you. 1)I appreciate your perspective on infection and treatment... Could you put the specific sinus treatment you noted into the chat.. 2) Stachy growing in "usual indoor environments" certainly indicates that the environment supports conditions for a whole biological soup ….And seeing it in urine states exposure. Is there any evidence there is enough of a dose by inhalation to cause true toxicity ?
12:58:38 From Paula Schenck : i Joe and Cliff,
13:00:02 From Paula Schenck : Please consider adding any references to Dr. Grant publications on mold in the blog!
