Our Afterthoughts:
Z-Man- From both my experience and vantage point, manufacturers with advertising money to spend get away with murder in trade magazines. When a trade magazine publishes an article the perception of the reader is that the author is an expert. In some cases the author truly is an expert and the info in the article is both truthful and valuable. In others the author is not an expert and the article ranges from opaquely veiled advertorials to much worse the intentional spreading of lies and misinformation, “bovine excrementia”. The newer twist, which I consider the most disingenuous, are the firms who pay an "expert for hire" to "review and/or test" their product and then write a "positive public review" /endorsement as an article in the magazine.
Z-Man- These magazines need a big disclaimer on the front cover, that the opinions expressed are those of the authors and not the publication.
Z-Man- In your previous position as an employee of a large publishing conglomerate, from a journalistic perspective did you ever feel uncomfortable about some of the things management directed and if so, did that factor into your striking out on your own?
12:42:39 From Michael Whitman : Thank you Cliff!
12:42:40 From Scott Armour : wow,,, did Cliff just go there? no way
12:42:48 From Scott Armour : LOL
12:43:17 From Scott Armour : bovine excrement - lol
12:43:34 From Scott Armour : don’t we all?
12:43:42 From Scott Armour : (know who does that…)
12:53:31 From Ed Light : No offense, Michelle, but I used to send content around from your previous publication for a joke and I really appreciate your taking up C&R with a commitment to integrity. None of the publications have made a science-based overview of the role of surface sanitizing in COVID, which is substantially different than is assumed. I'll be glad to help you with this, if you bug me!

Z-Man to the IAQradio audience:
Are trade journals credible sources for product information?

Great job Michelle, looking forward to an industry magazine with solid info and not advertorials. Thanks for joining us today. Your background is perfect for this project.

I wish I would have taken Latin.
Caveat Emptor- is Latin for "Let the buyer beware". It has become a proverb in English.
Noli illegitimi carborundum- don't let the bastards grind you down.
Semper ubi sub up- always wear underwear.

Re: Cliff's Latin phrases- It's good to know the knights and dancing girls of Rome wore underwear!
Re: Clarification of Afterthoughts registration process-
I don't speak "British English!" My accent is midway between Massachusetts, where I was born, and West Virginia, where I worked- That should make my accent the same as Cliff's, but it's not- Go figure!
